North Coast Tri Club was formed (incorporated) in 1994 by a group of competitors that had been training in and around the Craigie / Sorrento / Hillary’s area for some years prior.
Many changes have since occurred – the club members whilst competing only in the TWA calendar events in those days, now also have the opportunity to race in many club run events. North coast has access to two wonderful pools at Arena Joondalup (50m) and Craigie Leisure Centre (25m).
Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club also remains one of our favourite areas of activity.
The club now has over 300 members (200 competitive, 70 TRYStars with restricted & social making up the balance), but that doesn’t diminish our focus on the family support that our club attracts.
While many members are keen athletes, we don’t strive to be an elite outfit – “competing and socializing in harmony” is our philosophy. We still however are a successful club, having been Champion Club for season 2003/2004 and runners up 2004/2005 & 2005/2006. Other awards include, Inter Club Champions; seasons 2004, 2005, 2006 and also Wild West Bike Tour “Inter Tri Challenge” winners; 2004, 2005 & 2006.

As a result of the very diverse make up of our membership and the varied focus – from junior and Enticer beginner event competitors, right through to many seasoned Ironman competitors, the club does encourage groups of like talent and ambition to form their own “buddy” groups for those extra training run, ride or swim sessions.
In 2004 we introduced the “Women in Triathlon” (WIT) training course. This was very successful and was set up as a vehicle to introduce women to the sport in a non aggressive women’s only environment. The Club WIT training course has now become an annual program.
TRYStars Program: Trystars is a fantastic program introducing children aged 7 – 15 to the sport of triathlon. It is a program where “everyone’s a winner” and the emphasis is on participation not competition. Included in the Trystar membership is: Free entry to the 5 Race Summer Series of “have-a-go” Triathlons and Duathlons. Weekly skill and fun activity sessions run every Friday at 5pm from October to April. Every session finishes each week with either a “Mini Duathlon” or a “Spot Prize Draw”. And free entry to the Winter Series of “have-a-go” Duathlons. The sessions are run by experienced and enthusiastic parents/coaches and the season finishes with the End of Summer TRYstars Party.
This season a special Junior Program for 12+ has been developed in the club to assist our juniors to make the jump from TRYstars to full competing Triathletes in a safe and friendly environment. A special junior ride of suitable distances for beginner riders is held on Saturday mornings to teach youngsters to cycle on the roads safely.
All our Club races are sanctioned by our governing body - Triathlon Western Australia, which endorses that they are fully insured and that a risk management plan has been written to ensure that almost any eventuality or mishap is covered with a contingency plan.
