North
Coast 2005 Winter Duathlon Series Race 3
Sunday 7th August
Perfect conditions greeted the 30 odd competitors who gave
up their Sunday sleep ins in the name of “having a bit
of fun”. It was a great day’s racing with some
of the best duels seen in many days. The day however belonged
to Leigh Willison who powered over the course for a excellent
win. Improver on the day was most definitely Roger Shooter
who chased Leigh all the way home to finish 2nd , holding
off series leader Paul Covich who finished 3rd. Just call
me “Mr. Fourth” Barry Silverlock was, you guessed
right, 4th again. Another improver worth noting is young Kyra
Flynn who finished 16th in the field with a time of 41:29
(43:13 in race 2). Kyra would normally race in the 12-13 year
age group, so in that context her result is simply stunning.
For poetry in motion just watch her run sometime - and then
try and catch her.
As for those duels, well none of those we had been following
eventuated. Nimal still suffering the effects of his hard
Saturday morning ride was left eating the draft king Dave’s
dust. Scotty did an N S (no show) so Crofty picked on Greg
McIntosh to brutalize in a huge sprint finish. Dave has given
up on Nimal and is now after Steve Jamieson and certainly
got close in a fast run home. And how about some the other
gut buster sprints for home – Erika Lori being Sarah
Fearnley’s best friend until 50 metres from home and
then bolting and just holding her out, Mike Lori showing Wayne
Jones what real pain is and Ashley Fearnley showing absolutely
no respect for old men as she ground poor Dave Dunham into
the side walk.
Yes we all a great time again and encourage more of our members
to come out and take the challenge. It was also a farewell
to a Honeybush Drive veteran Wayne Jones. Our best wishes
go with Wayne as he and his family relocate to the Eastern
States.
