North Coast 2005 Winter Duathlon Series Race 5
Sunday 11th September

It was always going to be a great event – the culmination of a wonderful program, with the series result going right down to the wire. The final race saw the main contenders going head to head in a gut busting duel - these included Paul Covich, Leigh Willison and Barry Silverlock. Captain Kim Vivian came along also, not as a contender for the series as he hadn’t competed in the minimum four races, but just to show all in sundry just what a class athlete he is. Kim won in devastating fashion and Leigh Willison came in second – showing his class after having to chase the leaders on the second run. Barry Silverlock showed true grit to storm home into third place and he was followed home by last year’s champion – an unwell Paul Covich.

So the Duathlons are over for another year. Well done to everyone that raced over the testing “little” venue that is Honeybush Drive – I’m sure you had a ball and appreciated the effort that went into presenting the Series. To those hibernating members that we never saw, well you’ll never know what you missed and mores the pity.

Thank you to our naming sponsor UBD (Universal Publishing - Graham Dix), for funding the series shirt and supplying a large proportion of the spot prizes. Thank you also to our other wonderful sponsors – Wayne McIntosh from Bikeforce Woodvale for ten $20.00 gift vouchers, Gabriella Duffy from Duncraig Physiotherapy for seven physio vouchers valued at $45.00 each and finally Geoff Maher from Feature Frames of Joondalup for five framing vouchers.

To the man that orchestrated the Series go our sincerest thanks – John Hawkins, race directing his first series was a revelation. Never missed a beat and ran the show like clock work – we look forward to enjoying many more events that he runs in the future.

Please note that the scratch & handicap results of the series will be announced at our 2006 presentation dinner.
