Cycling Training

We have three sessions per week

Cycling Tuesday
 
Intervals ride session. This is a high-intensity training session with dedicated recovery points. Group 1 uses active recovery (constant rolling) at regrouping points and Group 2 have passive recovery stops.
 
Where: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club, South Carpark
Time: 5:45am till 7:00am
Route: Ride will leave from Surf Club to do a half loop of Hepburn first re-group at Bunnings Whitfords. Ride will then head to Burns Beach round about and return with 3 x hills (O’Mara Blvd, Resolute & Swanson) on the way back. Regroups are at the top of every hill

Cycling Thursday

With alternating routes every week this ride incorporates hill loops over a set course and caters for all fitness levels.
Where: Meet at Sorrento Surf Club, South Carpark
Time: 5:45am till 7:00am
Route: Hepburn climb loops view route on Strava, or Sacred Heart climbs view route on Strava
Cost: FREE

 
Cycling Saturday

Long rides on Saturday vary each week and facilitated by designated Ride Captains. Each ride is split into groups (A-D). The Routes will be decided and posted to our Facebook Members Page every Thursday.
 
If you are joining for the first time, please introduce yourself to the ride captain of the group you are joining prior to setting off.
We encourage everyone to come along, these rides will cater for all abilities.

Where: Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club, South Carpark (may vary)
Time: 6.00am (may change depending on light and visibility)
Cost: FREE

 
Ride Groups:

Groups A-C will have a ride captain, these are not coached rides
Group A - 32km/h +
Group B - 28-30km/h +/-
Group C - 27km/h +/-
(Sweeper bringing up the last rider of C)

Group D - Novice & Junior ride (shorter and approx 25km/h). This is a coached ride by Kevin Chua, working on skill sets, becoming confident and comfortable on the road and riding in a group. This is the perfect ride to start on for building confidence before joining our Group C ride.
 
Coached ride costs $5 and can be used out of your pre-paid training card or booked per individual session via our app.

Run Training

We have two coached sessions and one social run per week. Our coached sessions are interval and tempo based and are designed to accommodate a range of abilities and fitness levels. Our social run is on a Sunday morning, it is led by one of our members and offers an opportunity for people to meet up with similar paced runners to get some time on the legs, this is usually followed by a coffee or a swim.
 
Coached Tuesday and Thursday
 
Where: Flinders Reserve, Broadbeach Boulevard, Hillarys every Thursday evening.
Time: 6pm till 7pm
Cost: $5 or one stamp of a training card

 
Social Run Sunday

Where: Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club, South Carpark.
Time: 7.00am - 8.00am (can change depending on time of year)
Cost: Members only - $5 or one training stamp

Swim Training

We have three coached swim sessions per week, two pool based and one open water.
 
Pool Monday

Focus is technique with the ability to still get some distance for those who want it. Great for a recovery swim it caters for all abilities.

Where: Craigie Leisure Centre 50m Pool
Time: 7.00pm till 8.00pm
Cost: $10.50 for a casual pass or $10 with a training card purchased through the app (does not include pool entry) - Members only

 
Pool Wednesday
 
A tempo session, focused on pace awareness and building speed and endurance. Tempo trainers (beepers) are utilised but are optional.

Where: Craigie Leisure Centre 50m Pool
Time: 6.30pm till 7.30pm
Cost: $10.50 for a casual pass or $10 with a training card purchased through the app (does not include pool entry) - Members only

 
Open Water Friday - Recommencing from Friday, 6th November 2021

This is a seasonal session running from November to end of April. A unique swimming experience that covers sighting techniques and ‘ins’ and ‘outs’. Also great for building confidence in ocean swimming.
 
Where: Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club
Time: 5.50am till 7.00am (may change depending on light and visibility)
Cost: FREE for Members Only

 
Open Water Sunday (Summer Only) - details coming soon

An informal swim at Sorrento Beach, meeting at the steps down to the beach on the South side of the carpark.
 
Where: Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club
Time: 8.30am (coffee after)
Cost: FREE
